Taking a stand against youth
violence and crime.
Taking a Stand is a BC government program that provides
leadership, information, and resources to help youth prevent and
counter peer violence and crime.
|
At the forefront of Taking a Stand is the Youth Against
Violence Line. It is a toll free, automated phone line
that provides a safe, confidential way to prevent and report incidents of youth violence or crime or seek assistance from local police.

The Challenge
Develop a website that is:
- Information-focused
- Appealing to youth (both K-6 and 7-12)
- Professional, comfortable, and secure
The Solution
We created a website that presents the Taking a Stand program, highlights the Youth
Against Violence Line, provides games & activities, and disseminates
youth violence research and information.
Web Site Design
The website is easy to use, the images load quickly, and the "look and
feel" is pleasing and inviting to youth.
In addition to the toll-free phone line, youth can
also report violence and crime incidents confidentially
via e-mail. The Youth Against Violence e-mail form is secured
using PGP encryption. Only a Taking a Stand administrator can read the e-mail
message using a unique encryption key.
Webmaster
DJ's hosts the site and provides technical support. We also perform site updates
and changes, communicate key "performance indicators", and give
counsel on issues and ideas from a technology point-of-view.
The Results
The results are significant:
- Taking a Stand receives 1000's of visitors
to their website.
- Website visitors frequently return to
gather information and play the website games and activities.
- Youth report violence and crime
incidents through the Youth Against Violence Line and e-mail form.
Visitors have repeatedly said that they enjoy the website and
find it very easy to use.
The Intangibles
The Taking a Stand website allows youth to remain completely anonymous -
an important feature for victims of abuse.
